Attendance Policy

Last updated: 23 Jan 2026

In this policy, “you” means the participant (or parent/guardian for minors), and “we”, “us”, and “our” mean The Darling Theatre Company.

This policy sets out expectations for attendance in all classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances. Good attendance and punctuality are essential for learning, ensemble work, and performance readiness.

1. Attendance Expectations

  1. Participants are expected to attend all scheduled classes, workshops, rehearsals, and performances on time.

  2. Punctuality is essential. “Call time” means being ready to begin work at the designated start time, warmed up, with the correct attire, scripts, or equipment.

  3. Attendance supports skill development, ensemble collaboration, safety, and progression in training or performance.

  4. Repeated unauthorised absences may affect participation in assessments, showcases, or productions.

2. Monitoring Attendance

  1. Staff will record attendance at the start of each class, rehearsal, or workshop.

  2. For performances or production rehearsals, attendance will be monitored by the Production Manager, Stage Manager, or teaching staff.

  3. Parents/guardians must sign children in and out of all sessions unless otherwise arranged.

3. Absences

Illness or Emergencies

  1. If you or your child are unwell or unable to attend due to an emergency, notify hello@thedarlingtheatrecompany.com as soon as possible.

  2. Extended illness may require medical evidence for record purposes.

Planned Absences

  1. For planned absences (e.g., appointments, family events), notify the company in advance.

  2. Absences coinciding with key performances, assessments, or workshops may not be authorised.

4. Age-Specific Participation Rules

  1. Children must attend age-appropriate classes and performances only.

  2. Minimum and maximum age requirements are outlined in class descriptions and enrolment materials.

  3. Certain exercises, material, or performance content may be restricted based on age to ensure safety and suitability.

5. Digital or Online Attendance

  1. For online sessions, participants are expected to join at the scheduled time, with cameras on and ready to engage.

  2. Technical issues should be communicated promptly via hello@thedarlingtheatrecompany.com. Persistent connection problems may require additional support or alternative arrangements.

6. Reasonable Adjustments

  1. Where appropriate, adjustments to attendance or call times may be made for medical conditions, disabilities, or other individual needs.

  2. Requests for adjustments should be made in advance and may require documentation or discussion with the Artistic Director.

7. Action for Unauthorised Absences

  1. Staff will contact participants or parents if absences become frequent or unexplained.

  2. Repeated unauthorised absences may result in:

    • Suspension from classes, rehearsals, or performances

    • Restricted participation in productions or showcases

    • Referral to the Artistic Director for further review

8. Commitment to Safety and Wellbeing

  1. Attendance supports safe practice, ensuring that participants are aware of rehearsal safety, performance protocols, and emergency procedures.

  2. Participants who miss sessions may need to complete alternative tasks or catch-up work before performing in a showcase or production.

9. Communication

  • All attendance notifications, requests for authorisation, or queries should be sent to:
    Email: hello@thedarlingtheatrecompany.com

This policy ensures that all participants, parents, and staff understand attendance requirements, punctuality, and procedures for absences, helping maintain a safe, supportive, and collaborative learning and performance environment.
