About the Program

Our Film Class offers adult actors a practical, on-set-inspired training environment designed to build confidence, technique, and professional readiness for screen work. Across each three‑hour session, actors train in camera awareness, script work, self‑taping, scene coverage, and on‑screen performance craft. You’ll work with industry‑aligned methods that strengthen your instincts, sharpen your choices, and prepare you for real film‑set conditions. Scenes will be directed as if on a TV or film set to teach true, practical technique in a real-time setting. All scenes will be made available at the end of the term for actors to add to their show reels.

Throughout the term, actors rehearse, shoot, review footage and receive tailored coaching centred on clarity, truth, and technical skill. This is an ideal class for emerging or developing actors wanting high‑quality screen training in a supportive, ensemble‑based setting.

What Students Learn

Our Film Class is designed to give adult actors hands-on screen training that builds practical skills, confidence, and professional readiness.

Across the term you’ll develop the core techniques used by actors working in film and television, with regular on-camera scene work, personalised feedback, and review of your own footage.

  • Learn how to perform with confidence and subtlety in front of the camera, understanding framing, eye-lines, and how to adapt your performance for different shots.

  • Break down scripts to uncover subtext, objectives, and character motivation, and make strong, informed creative choices.

  • Master practical self-taping skills and receive targeted feedback to help you present your best work in auditions.

  • Rehearse and shoot scenes in a setting that mirrors real production conditions, refining how you hit marks, respond to direction, and play truthfully in the moment.

  • Watch back your filmed scenes and receive coaching focused on clarity, emotional truth, and technical precision.

  • Gain confidence with the practical aspects of working on set — from taking direction to maintaining continuity — so you’re ready for real industry environments.

By the end of the term, you’ll have stronger screen instincts, useful scene footage for your show reel, and the skills to approach auditions and on-camera work with purpose and confidence.

Why Train with The Darling Theatre Company?

Practical, On-Set-Inspired Training
Our Film Class gives actors real-world practice that mirrors professional film and television environments — from camera awareness and scene coverage to self-taping and on-camera performance craft. You train the way working screen actors do, not just in theory.

Develop Genuine Screen Skills
Acting for the camera requires subtlety, awareness of framing and eye lines, and the ability to deliver authentic, believable performances that resonate on screen - skills that are very different from stage acting and are best learned with specific screen training.

Build Confidence & Professional Readiness
By rehearsing, shooting, reviewing footage and receiving personalised coaching, you strengthen your instincts and technical precision - key qualities casting directors look for when considering actors for roles.

Supportive, Ensemble Training Environment
You’ll work alongside other committed adult actors in a collaborative setting that encourages growth, honest feedback, and shared creative exploration — essential for developing both craft and confidence.

Led by Experienced Teachers in a Creative Community
Training at The Darling Theatre Company is part of a broader artistic community that values rigorous craft development and supports performers at every stage of their journey, whether you’re emerging, returning to training, or refining your professional skills.
