Who We Are
The Darling Theatre Company is a home for actors committed to craft, courage, and the transformative power of live performance. Based in the Byron Shire, we bring together dedicated artists who train, rehearse, and perform as a unified company - honouring the traditions of classical theatre while creating bold, accessible work for our community.
Our approach is simple and rigorous: we learn as we rehearse. Inspired by the structure of classical drama schools and professional theatre companies, our weekly company sessions function as both training and rehearsal, with actors developing technique through the plays they perform. Membership in the company is earned through our classes, ensuring that every actor who steps onstage has demonstrated not only artistic ability but also discipline, generosity, and a strong ensemble ethic.
We believe in the power of consistent practice. Voice, movement, text, and technique form the foundation of our process, supported by resilience, professionalism, and a deep respect for the rehearsal room. Through this training‑in‑performance model, our actors gain real-world professional experience, building their CVs while presenting high‑quality theatre to the Byron Shire.
What We Offer
In addition to our core ensemble, we offer a range of training opportunities, including camera workshops, audition surgeries, one‑on‑one coaching, and dedicated Youth classes that culminate in live performances each year. Our goal is to nurture talent across ages and experience levels, fostering confident, skilled, and truthful performers.
We serve our community with a full annual season of classical plays, new writing, and youth showcases - creating theatre that is ambitious, heartfelt, and accessible. We also welcome creatives across costume, lighting, makeup, hair, props, and set design to join our collaborative company environment, and invite patrons to support our work through season memberships.
At the heart of The Darling Theatre Company is a simple mission: to train rigorously, perform bravely, and build a vibrant artistic community in the Byron Shire where storytelling thrives, and actors grow with purpose, courage, and joy.
