Code of Conduct for Actors

 The Darling Theatre Company is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and creatively rigorous environment for all actors. This Code of Conduct outlines the standards of behaviour expected from all performers participating in our productions, classes, workshops, and community programs. By engaging with the company, actors agree to uphold the following principles and practices.

  1. Professionalism
    • Arrive on time for rehearsals, classes, and performances.
    • Come prepared, having reviewed scripts, notes, and any required materials.
    • Notify staff promptly of any absence, delay, or issue affecting participation.
    • Refrain from behaviour that disrupts rehearsal, training, or performance processes.

  2. Respect for the Ensemble
    • Treat all fellow actors, staff, and creatives with courtesy and respect.
    • Support a collaborative working environment where every voice can contribute.
    • Listen attentively during direction, notes, and scene work.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding creative processes and the personal work of others.

  3. Safety and Wellbeing
    • Follow all health and safety guidelines in rehearsal and performance spaces.
    • Engage in physical and emotional work responsibly and within personal limits.
    • Report unsafe behaviour, hazards, or concerns to staff immediately.
    • Refrain from the use of drugs or alcohol during working hours or when representing the company.

  4. Conduct in Rehearsal and Performance
    • Maintain focus and presence during all exercises, scenes, and notes sessions.
    • Use props, costumes, and equipment responsibly and only as directed.
    • Respect the rehearsal room: keep the space clean, orderly, and conducive to creative work.
    • Accept direction with openness, curiosity, and professionalism.

  5. Communication
    • Engage in constructive, honest, and respectful communication at all times.
    • Direct concerns or grievances to designated staff following company procedures.
    • Avoid gossip, exclusionary behaviour, or actions that undermine the ensemble.

  6. Inclusivity
    • Value and uphold the company’s commitment to equal opportunities.
    • Avoid any behaviour that discriminates on the basis of age, gender, race, culture, ability, identity, or background.
    • Be mindful of diverse experiences within the ensemble and contribute to an inclusive environment.

  7. Digital Conduct
    • Represent the company positively on social media and digital platforms.
    • Refrain from sharing confidential material, rehearsal content, or footage without permission.
    • Use digital devices responsibly during working hours.

  8. Commitment to Craft
    • Approach all work with dedication, courage, and curiosity.
    • Take responsibility for personal growth, preparation, and creative development.
    • Honour the ensemble and the work by striving for excellence.

Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in warnings, removal from a program, or further action as outlined in company procedures. Our goal is always to support learning, communication, and resolution wherever possible.
